Language Movement Museum Dhaka

The history of Bengali language is the history of bloody sacrifice. In 1952, this language was acquired in exchange for the blood of many martyrs, including Salam, Rafiq, Jabbar, Barkat, Shafiur and many others. Language Movement Museum was inaugurated on the second floor of Burdwan House of Bangla Academy in 2010 to commemorate the memory of language martyrs.

In each room of the language museum established in Bangla Academy, various things used by the martyrs of the language movement are preserved as memorials. The collection includes language martyr Rafiq's matriculation certificate, language martyr Shafiur Rahman's coat, memorandum sent to Muhammad Ali Jinnah by Rashtrabhasha Karparishad, pages of the first book printed in Bengali language, chatter bag used by language martyr Shafiur Rahman etc. In addition to these, the covers of various books related to the historical context and events of the language movement, copies of newspapers published at that time and various historical photographs have been preserved for display.

Bhasha Andolan Museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The museum is open daily from 3 pm to 6 pm only during the month of February. Language Movement Museum is closed on all holidays. There is no entrance fee to visit the Language Movement Museum.

There are numerous bus services to Shahbagh from different parts of Dhaka city. All these buses arrive at Shahbag intersection and one can take a rickshaw or walk to the Language Movement Museum located in Bangla Academy.
