Khan Jahan Ali Mazar

If you want to see Khan Jahan Ali Mazar ( Khan Jahan Ali Mazar ), you have to go to Bagerhat district of Khulna division . Although Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) was born in India, he came to Jessore, Bagerhat region of Bangladesh to preach religion. He built the famous sixty-domed mosque in Bagerhat. According to many, Khan Jahan Ali came to Bangladesh from Arab countries via Delhi. Although little information is available about his personal and family life, researchers believe that Khan Jahan Ali was a contemporary of Sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah. Khan Jahan Ali was a close friend and general of the then Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah of Gaur. As the Sultan's representative, Khan Jahan Ali created a township in Bagerhat region and named it Khalifat-e-Abad and in accordance with the arrival of 360 Auliyas, he built 360 mosques and dug 360 dighis in Bhati region.

Khan Jahan Ali died on 23 October 1459 on Wednesday 863 Hijri 26 Zil Hajj. His mausoleum has been constructed on the north bank of Khanjeli Dighi. The mausoleum of Khan Jahan Ali is square in shape. The wall of the monument is 25 feet high and has a dome on the roof. Inside this mausoleum is the shrine of Hazrat Khanjahan Ali on a stone altar. The architecture of the dargah or shrine is very similar to that of the six-domed mosque. Every year on the 25th day of the Bengal calendar, the annual Orsh Mubarak is held in the premises of Khan Jahan Ali Shrine. And a fair is held here on the first full moon of Chaitra month. To see the shrine of Khan Jahan Ali, thousands of devotees from all over the country flock to the shrine in Orsh and Mela.

Several buses of Meghna, Banphool, Falguni, Ara, Tauri, Baleshwar, Hamim and Dola depart from Syedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka every day from 6 am to 10 am and 7 pm to 10 pm. Sohag, Shakura, Hanif, Comfort Line and Eagle transport vehicles depart from Gabtali Bus Terminal. These buses cost 650 to 800 taka per person.

Apart from this, you can take Sundarban Express train from Dhaka to Khulna or Chitra Express train to Khulna from there by bus or CNG to Bagerhat.

Khan Jahan Ali's shrine is located just 3 km south-west of Sharif Bagerhat town and about 22 km south-east of Khulna. Khan Jahan Ali's Mazar Sharif is located just 300 yards from the Khulna Bagerhat highway. You can get off the bus on the Khulna Bagerhat highway and walk for 5 minutes to reach the shrine.

Accommodation in Bagerhat is not very good, but there are some residential hotels of medium quality. Mumtaz Hotel on Rail Road has less facilities but the service quality is relatively good, but the cost is a little higher. Apart from the government guesthouse in Bagerhat Sadar, Hotel Abhi (01833742623), Hotel Al Amin (0468-63168, 01718692737) and Hotel Mohna (0468-63075, 01722858313) adjacent to the central bus station can stay at Tk 400 to Tk 1000.

It takes only 1 hour to go by bus from Khulna to Bagerhat, so you can come to Khulna divisional city for overnight stay.

There are some standard food hotels so you can go to hotels near the bus stand or dargah to eat. But definitely know about the food quality and price.
