Shantiniketan, the memory of Rabindranath Tagore, is a witness to the amalgamation of literature and culture. In this small town of Birbhum district of West Bengal, India, many Rabindra lovers from home and abroad flock to this small town every year.

Santiniketan's earlier name was Bhubandanga. In 1863 Devendranath Tagore established an ashram in this town and named it Santiniketan. About 40 years later, Rabindranath Tagore established a Path Bhavan here in 1901. Which radically changed the course of education at that time. After 1913, this lecture hall became Visva Bharati Maha Vidyalaya.

Presently Santiniketan is further enriched by Paush Mela, Vasant Utsav, Jaydev Kenduli Mela, Chhatimatala, Rabindra Museum, Ballabpur Wildlife Park, Nandan Art Gallery, Sonajhuri and Amarkutir. Santiniketan has been delighting the hearts of knowledge and travel lovers for years with the beauty of nature, education and culture.

November to February is the best time to visit Santiniketan. It is better not to visit Santiniketan during summers, Santiniketan can be easily visited during winters.

From Kolkata's Howrah or Sealdah station, take 12337 Shantiniketan Express, 13017 Ganadevta Express, 12347 Rampurhat Express, 13011 Intercity Express, 13187 Sealda-Rampurhat Express or 15657 Kanchenjunga Express to Bolapur. Santiniketan can be easily reached by rickshaw or battery operated auto from Bolapur railway station. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to reach Shanti Niketan by rickshaw from Bolpur.
