SM Sultan Complex has been constructed to preserve the memory of the world famous painter SM Sultan in Machimdia village, 12 km from Narail district headquarters. Built in 2003 in the beautiful natural environment of Chitra River, Sultan Complex spread over an area of about 27 acres is surrounded by various green trees of rare species. The tomb of SM Sultan lies in the green nature of this complex with the chirping of countless birds. The two-storied modern photo gallery at Sultan Complex houses the artist's paintings and used objects. About 38 feet long, the art gallery has a total of 23 paintings including the development of civilization, paddy threshing, tillage, marigold cultivation. SM Sultan built a “children's heaven” on the river called Bajra to teach children to draw. Presently children are taught drawing at the Shishusvarg located in the area adjacent to the complex.
Around this complex built in the house of painter SM Sultan, every year on 10th August on the occasion of the artist's birthday, a boating competition and a 7-day long Sultan Mela are organized. Every day many visitors come from far and wide to see the rare paintings of this eminent painter.
