Sajek Valley is located in Rangamati district, but the most convenient road route to reach it starts from Khagrachari town and passes through Dighinala and Baghaihat. There are no direct passenger trains, commercial flights or regular long-distance coach services that terminate at the main tourist hub of Sajek.
Current Travel Guidelines: Tourists should not travel to Sajek till October 22, 2026, as the district administration has suspended travel and the Sajek-Dighinala road is affected due to the indefinite blockade. The following information describes the normal travel arrangements to be used once the authorities officially reopen the destination.
Option 1: By bus and reserved jeep from Dhaka
- Dhaka to Khagrachari: Board an intercity bus from the authorized departure counter in Dhaka. Companies operating this major route include Shyamoli, S. Alam, Shanti Paribahan and other regional services. Depending on the operator, buses may also depart from Gabtoli, Kalabagan and other designated counters. Please verify the actual boarding location when purchasing tickets.
- Journey time: Allow approximately 7-9 hours for the Dhaka-Khagrachari journey, additional time may be required in case of traffic jams or disruptions.
- Estimated bus fare: Budget around ৳600–৳1,500 per person for a one-way journey, depending on operator and seating class. Check the current published fare when booking.
- Transportation in Khagrachari: Hire a proper jeep or a locally known Chander car through a reputable driver. The road to Sajek passes through Dighinala and Baghaihat.
- Security checkpoints: Join the movement with authorized guards at designated checkpoints. Departure schedules are locally controlled and cannot be assumed to be fixed.
- Arrival: After getting permission to proceed, proceed towards Ruilui Para and your place of residence. The Khagrachari-Sajek section will take approximately 2.5–4 hours, depending on the waiting time, road conditions, and convoy management.
The road distance from Khagrachari to Sajek is generally stated to be around 65-70 kilometers. Due to winding mountain roads and guarded traffic, the journey time is significantly longer than the distance alone.
Option 2: By train from Dhaka
Travel from Dhaka to Chittagong on the intercity train service available on Bangladesh Railways. The journey usually takes around 5-7 hours, depending on the train and schedule. From Chittagong, reach Khagrachhari in another 3-4 hours by road, then arrange for authorized local transport to Sajek via Dighinala and Baghaihat.
The train fare depends on the class chosen and the current railway tariff. A normal seat or air-conditioned seat may cost approximately 400–1500 taka, but confirm the actual fare with Bangladesh Railways. There is no railway station in Sajek Valley or Khagrachari town.
Option 3: By air from Dhaka
Fly from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong. This flight usually takes about an hour. Then take a rented car or intercity bus to Khagrachhari, then complete the journey by authorized road to Sajek. Airfares vary widely depending on the airline, travel dates, booking conditions, and seat availability.
Traveling by plane shortens the distance of the first part of the journey, but does not eliminate the need for several hours of road travel thereafter. There is no commercial airport in the Sajek Valley.
Option 4: From Chittagong
Take an intercity bus to Khagrachhari town or reserve a suitable vehicle. The journey usually takes about 3-4 hours. From Khagrachhari, follow the designated route via Dighinala and Baghaihat. Before starting the journey, arrange a vehicle for the hilly part so that your travel plans match the approved convoy schedule.
Option 5: From Rangamati District Headquarters
Although Sajek is part of Rangamati district, it is not very easy to reach from Rangamati town. The route for ordinary tourists to reach here is first a long journey along the extensive regional road towards Khagrachari and Dighinala, and then the controlled Sajek road. This journey can take most of the day or even more if the transport system is not convenient.
Travelers starting from Rangamati town should check with local transport operators for the currently approved route and arrange for appropriate onward connections. It should not be assumed that direct public buses or convenient short-distance road routes will be available from Rangamati town to Sajek. Visitors planning to visit Kaptai Lake or the Rangamati Suspension Bridge should generally consider Rangamati town and Sajek as two separate travel destinations.
